Sick Students

If we were to tell students that we won’t charge them for same day cancellations due to illness, 80% of your students would be calling in “sick” every 3rd week when they are actually going to a soccer game, etc. This is why we have a 24 hour cancellation policy in order for the student to request a makeup lesson. We enforce this policy on a daily basis because we know your time is valuable, and we respect that. This policy prevents a last minute invitation to the latest Batman movie from turning into a bad cold *cough* *cough*

Occasionally, students may come to their lessons sick as they have to pay for them anyway.  This is just how teaching works whether you teach privately or in a public school.  Teachers are periodically exposed to sick students to some degree.  If you have a particularly sick student who comes in for their lesson, and you are concerned for your own safety or the safety of the student here is the solution…

You have the option to SEND THEM HOME and then text the office at 513-560-9175 to notify us so we can arrange a makeup lesson. In the event you send a student home, you would not get paid for that lesson, but you would get paid for teaching the makeup lesson in the future.

Use this send-home option carefully only when a child is clearly contagious (when a child is feverish, vomiting, or having severe digestive problems). Kids have the sniffles fairly often, but this does not necessarily mean they are contagious if the child’s behavior and demeanor otherwise appears to be normal. We do not openly advertise this option to parents, as it would be abused and regularly disruptive to teachers’ schedules, so please use this option discretely and sparingly only when you feel it is necessary, as our normal policy for students is not allowing last minute cancellations to be rescheduled.
